From 2 July through 11 October 2026, the thirteenth edition of Sonsbeek will take place, Europe’s oldest recurring exhibition for art in public space. Sonsbeek 2026 offers a compact yet in-depth experience that can be enjoyed in a single day. The historic Park Sonsbeek forms the heart of the manifestation, complemented by presentations at partner institutions.

The Battle of Arnhem, part of Operation Market Garden, went down in history as a heroic battle fought by the British (and Polish) paratroopers who were dropped behind German lines to capture the Rhine bridge.

The first air raid alarm sounded at 9:30 a.m. on September 17, 1944. However, the resistance from the German occupation was much stronger than expected. Every meter was fought for, houses and churches were destroyed, and 1,700 of the 10,000 paratroopers were killed. During the night of September 25 to 26, the remainder of the British Airborne Division withdrew across the Rhine to the southern bank at Oosterbeek. The Battle of Arnhem was lost.

Welcome to the Airborne March, the world’s largest one-day commemorative walking event. This march, held in remembrance of the Battle of Arnhem 1944, takes place every year on the first Saturday of September in Oosterbeek. Distances: 10 km, 15 km, 25 km, 40 km.
